Anna Lakomy: judge at Greenwich International Film Festival

An activist before she was an actress, Anna was thrilled to be a judge at the Greenwich International Film Festival, in which she was on the jury for the documentary feature film series along with Nina Davenport and Asli Coker.

The team chose "Hooligan Sparrow" for the main award due to the risk-taking and fully independent approach of Nanfu Wang to expose the harrassment and other illegal ramifications of the activist work of Ye Haian who aims to protest the sex abuse going on in her home country of China.

Anna was also excited to meet Oona Laurence of Little Boxes who will be attending in the fall the same "fame" high school in NYC that Anna graduated from.

Anna Lakomy stars opposite Julia Montgomery

Actress Anna Lakomy stars opposite Julia Montgomery (One Life to Live, Revenge of the Nerds) in an edgy sci-fi short, “Appetence.”

The idea for this edgy sci-fi short came when writer/executive producer Paul Cenzoprano was pondering about what may cause people to stop eating in the future and realizing it would probably be due to a fad launched by Hollywood.

Anna Lakomy's film takes on sexual violence in the military

Lakomy decided to write and produce “Brave Little Soldier” after reading about how women couldn’t join specialized units in Afghanistan due to the ban on females in combat (a policy the Obama administration has since announced is changing).

She said many women soldiers actually fulfill the same combat-related tasks as men in the military, but don’t get the official recognition. This means they can’t receive certain benefits and promotions.

“It seems extremely unfair,” Lakomy said.

She is “shocked” at the level of sexual violence against women in the military, calling it “an occupational hazard” that is ignored. When women victims do speak up, they often are labeled as mentally ill and discharged, she said. [...]
